FAQ

There are so many English courses. How do I choose?
Start with the goal: ① exam preparation (IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, DSE); ② workplace English (business English, corporate training); ③ foundation skills (phonics, conversation, regular classes at a language school). Hours, class size and fees vary widely between these, so comparing tuition alone tells you very little.
IELTS or TOEFL?
Both are international proficiency tests with different uses: IELTS is more common for study in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and for some immigration routes; TOEFL is mainly used for applications to North American institutions. Many schools now accept either and publish a minimum score, so check the institution's own page rather than assuming either will do.
What are TOEIC and BULATS for?
TOEIC is widely used by employers and for workplace assessment, especially in Japan, Korea and some multinationals. BULATS was discontinued in December 2019; Cambridge's equivalent business English test is now Linguaskill (B1 to C2, covering listening, speaking, reading and writing). Existing BULATS certificates remain valid.
Is there a DSE to IELTS conversion?
Benchmark studies exist, but institutions list the DSE level or IELTS score they accept directly. Check the institution or programme's admission requirements instead of converting the score yourself, because accepted combinations differ between programmes.
