FAQ

Do tutoring centres need to register?
Yes. Under section 3(1) of the Education Ordinance, any institution that provides education to 20 or more persons on any day, or 8 or more at any one time, must be registered or provisionally registered as a school. Parents can check a centre's registration status with the EDB.
Small group or one-to-one?
Small groups (4–8) offer peer interaction at lower cost and suit steady progress and practice. One-to-one is more targeted but costs more, and suits a concentrated weakness or a large gap. Many families start with a small group and add one-to-one for the specific subject that lags.
How do I choose a tutor?
Look at academic background in the subject, public exam results, teaching experience, whether the organisation has run a sexual conviction record check, and how the trial lesson feels. A famous tutor is not automatically right for your child; styles vary a lot within the same subject.
Does tutoring always help?
It depends on whether it targets a specific weakness, follows up with practice and is reviewed regularly. Adding hours without reviewing error patterns has limited effect; the effective loop is diagnose, practise, retest.
