FAQ

What do building inspection courses teach?
The handover inspection process, common defects (hollow tiles, water seepage, warped windows and doors, drainage, electrical outlets), instrument use (moisture meters, levels, thermal imaging) and how to write and follow up an inspection report.
Does it make me a building inspector?
No. A short course provides knowledge and technique only. Professional surveying qualifications, such as membership of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, require professional assessment and practical experience and are a different level. Ask who issues the certificate, whether it is QF-recognised and whether the industry accepts it.
What should I check before enrolling?
① Site visits and hands-on instrument hours. ② Whether instructors work in the field (surveyors, inspection company owners). ③ Sample reports and checklists. ④ QF register status. ⑤ Follow-up support or referrals.
Can I inspect a flat myself?
You can do a basic check: cracks, seepage marks, windows and doors, drainage. Structural, waterproofing and electrical issues are better judged by a professional. For a new flat, record defects in writing during the warranty period and keep photos with dates.
